About the Festival

Where is the Book and Author Festival typically held?

The Festival is held in venues all over Downtown Green Bay (mostly), in 10-14 different places, depending on how you count them. There are two reasons for this: 1.) there is not a single venue in the city that is large enough to contain UntitledTown, and 2.) showing off Downtown Green Bay is our (not so) secret agenda.

That’s a lot of ground to cover! How do people get around?

Take the UTA! Usually, UntitledTown Transit Authority offers 1 or 2 trolleys circulating around Festival venues on Saturday and Sunday. We also try to ensure that our events are fully accessible to attendees of all abilities.

What events can I find at UntitledTown Book and Author Festival?

In general, our Festival features 80-180 separate sessions for readers and writers of all ages and experiences. Our Festivals have included headliners like Margaret Atwood, R.L. Stine, Roxane Gay, Christopher Moore, Danez Smith, Kristen Radtke, and many others. We offer free events for readers, writers, kids, writers interested in publishing their work, and interactive or performance based events.

Are Festival events free?

Due to the generosity of our sponsors and donors, all but one event in each Festival—usually a fundraiser—is free and open to the public.

Do attendees need to register for the Festival?

No. The only information we will gather is to ask attendees at each event to fill out a brief questionnaire to report basic data (zip code, hometown) to our regional grant givers.

Do I need tickets to events?

For most sessions, no. For those that do require tickets to ensure everyone gets a seat, we offer ticketing through Eventbrite. For these events, we also offer priority access to author signings.

What does “priority access” mean?

Just that. Authors are human beings and there are limits to how many books they are able to sign. In the case of very popular authors like 2018 Festival headliner R.L. Stine, for example, the demand was likely to overwhelm his signing arm. Priority access means that you get in line first. If you have a free, general admission ticket, you can still get in line, but you may not be able to get your book signed.

Do I need to sign up for workshops?

You only need to sign up for youth writing workshops, to ensure each student has a seat. In 2019, we also require a sign up for Michael Moreci’s “Writing Science Fiction” workshop.  We use the same ticketing system to manage workshop signup. Once again, all of the workshops are free.

I have so many other questions —how can I participate as a writer? Can my kids do stuff? How do I volunteer for the next Festival?

So glad you asked! Be sure to visit the NEWS links in the menu above.
